About Robert Lewis

Born and raised in Los Angeles, Robert Lewis has more than 30 years of professional experience working in the nonprofit human and social services sector, with the last 17 years being in philanthropy. Robert has spent most of his career working on efforts geared toward improving conditions in traditionally under-resourced communities and the lives of affected individuals in those communities. 

Robert currently serves as a Community Benefits Program Manager at L.A. Care Health Plan, the nation’s largest publicly operated managed health care plan. In this role, he manages the company’s grantmaking efforts geared toward improving addressing pervasive heath disparity gaps and addressing solutions for social determinants of health. Robert is also President and board member of the Black Cooperative Impact Fund (BCIF), Southern California’s only nonprofit organization that provides interest-free microloans to Southern California-based emerging businesses. 

Besides his current board service with BCIF, Robert has served on several nonprofit boards and community advisory committees including Hathaway-Sycamores Child and Family Services, New Earth, Goodwill Southern California, the African-American Board Leadership Institute (AABLI), KCET, and Southern California Blacks in Philanthropy (SCBIP). 

Robert received a bachelor’s in sociology from Occidental College and a master’s in social work with a concentration in administration and management from Howard University. Robert currently resides in the Hyde Park section of Los Angeles, CA and has one adult son.
