About Martin Schlageter

Martin Schlageter is Special Assistant to the General Manager of Metropolitan Water District of Southern California. Metropolitan is the largest drinking water wholesaler in the country, a cooperative of 26 public agencies providing water to 19 million Southern Californians. 

With 20 years in non-profit organizations and more than a decade in elected and public offices, Martin has deep experience in public policy, infrastructure and sustainability. Before joining MWD, Martin created and led the external relations program for StreetsLA in the City of LA Department of Public Works, which is responsible for the upkeep of the City’s streets, sidewalks and street trees. He served as policy director for Los Angeles City Council District 14, helping shape public policy and programs on a range of issues, particularly in the areas of sustainability and homelessness. As an environmental advocate with Coalition for Clean Air, Sierra Club and Friends of the Los Angeles River he has a long track record of collaborative policy making and noisemaking at the state, regional and local levels.
