About Andrea Mac

Andrea Mac is a lifelong Los Angeles resident who grew up in Chinatown in Council District 1 and
is a dedicated advocate for civic and community engagement. She is currently a Programs
Coordinator at the Center for Asian Americans United for Self-Empowerment (CAUSE), a nonprofit
advancing the political and civic engagement of Asian and Pacific Islander (API) leaders. Andrea
plays an instrumental role in CAUSE’s voter outreach and education initiatives and models civic
leadership as a facilitator for youth programs serving high school and college students.

Over the past four years, Andrea has focused on learning about local governance to better
advocate for and educate communities often disconnected from the political process. She holds
a B.A. in Public Policy Analysis and Economics from Pomona College, where she studied how
policies affect people and communities on the ground. Her commitment to community
engagement is rooted in lived experience. Growing up as the daughter of two Limited English
Proficiency (LEP) speakers, Andrea helped her family navigate government services and public
assistance programs, where she experienced firsthand the access and language barriers people
face—and the effects of those barriers—when communities are not given proper support and
outreach.

Outside of CAUSE, Andrea draws on her background as a first-generation, low-income (FGLI)
graduate to support current FGLI college students as Programs Manager at the Ivory Bridges
Foundation (IBF), a fellowship that provides financial support and personalized coaching to help
students transition from college to the workforce.

Andrea brings her passion for civic engagement into every space she enters, committed to
closing gaps in culturally competent outreach, resources, and representation for the diverse
communities that make up Los Angeles.
